MEKO’s New Logistics Powerhouse

MEKO is one of Northern Europe’s leading players in the automotive aftermarket, supplying spare parts, tools, workshop equipment and services to workshops and car owners through well-known concepts such as Meca, Mekonomen and BilXtra.

When MEKO consolidated its entire Norwegian supply chain into a new logistics center, it marked a strategic investment in the future. With Element Logic as its automation partner, the company built a state-of-the-art facility combining high capacity, precision, and sustainability. The result is a logistics hub that sets a new standard for how far automation can go in a modern warehouse.

Unified Logistics

Previously, MEKO Norway’s warehouse structure was spread across multiple locations including local warehouses and supply from the central warehouse in Strängnäs, Sweden. The new solution brings everything together under one roof, providing greater visibility, faster flow, and improved control of the supply chain.

-We are now consolidating MEKO’s entire Norwegian supply chain at this logistics hub in Vestby, says Tor Erik Myrvold, Logistics Manager at MEKO.

By moving all Norwegian supply operations to Vestby, MEKO not only reduced its dependency on external warehouses, but also shortened the distance to end customers.

The new investment we have made in Norway means a great deal to us. From here, we deliver to Meca, Mekonomen, and BilXtra.

AutoStore at the Center – Supported by a Fully Integrated System

At the heart of the warehouse is the AutoStore system, which handles the majority of all transactions. What truly makes the facility unique, however, is the interaction between AutoStore, conveyor systems, buffer areas, and associated control systems – all integrated and delivered by Element Logic.

-With MEKO’s new logistics center in Vestby, we have launched Element Logic’s most advanced automation installation in Norway. It is a fully integrated system that demonstrates how modern automation is about end-to-end integration – the interaction between AutoStore, conveyors, robotics, and intelligent software. This is proof of how far we have come, and of what is possible when technology, experience, and ambition come together, says Niklas Poulsen, Account Manager & Lead Customer Success at Element Logic Norway.

– At the core of the warehouse is AutoStore, where nearly 80% of picking is planned through the AutoStore system. It includes a grid with 111,000 bins and 60 robots, explains Tor Erik Myrvold.

To support capacity, the system is equipped with 14 decanting stations and 20 picking stations, with a picking capacity of up to 3,000 order lines per hour.

– Items entering AutoStore are dimensioned so that even a pallet can be stored in the system. Anything beyond that is stored in buffer areas and manually replenished into AutoStore as needed, says Myrvold.

An Investment for the Future

A clear strategy underlined the project: to build a warehouse that not only meets today’s needs but also supports future growth. The new logistics center provides MEKO with greater flexibility, improved data management, and significantly more efficient goods flow.

It is an investment for the future, giving us a more modern warehouse, more space, and enabling us to offer a broader and deeper assortment to our customers.

Siw Holter, Supply Chain Director, MEKO Norway.

She also highlights how the solution directly impacts customers.
– Shorter delivery times to our customers and improved service quality – all because we now operate a much larger warehouse with even more products, says Holter.
With a new control system and automated goods flow, accuracy has also improved significantly.

– In addition, we now have more modern systems that give us greater control over inventory. Most importantly, this enables us to continuously work on improvements and efficiency in line with the KPIs and goals we have set for ourselves, she says.

Seamless Collaboration From Planning to Operations

The project in Vestby was developed and implemented in close collaboration between MEKO and Element Logic, from design and simulation to testing and training. Holter highlights the collaboration as a key success factor.

We must give credit to Element Logic and their team, from Nick and the sales group to the entire project team. The execution has been incredibly successful. AutoStore was operational exactly according to plan and has functioned flawlessly from day one.

The collaboration then continued through Element Logic’s Customer Success program, ensuring proactive follow-up, optimization, and continuous improvement after go-live.

Sustainability and Scalability Built in From the Start

Sustainability has been a guiding principle throughout the project. The warehouse building has achieved BREEAM Very Good certification, features rooftop solar panels, and incorporates energy-efficient solutions for lighting, cooling, and transport. At the same time, the system was built for scalability. The AutoStore module occupies only around 10% of the total area yet handles the majority of all transactions.

The entire solution is designed for growth. We can scale both AutoStore and the surrounding systems as needed.

A Foundation for MEKO’s Future

With the new logistics center in Vestby, MEKO has established an efficient, modern, and future-proofed foundation for continued growth in the Norwegian market.

– This provides us with a foundation for continuous improvement and efficiency, in line with the goals we have set for ourselves, Holter concludes.
