REISSER, part of the Würth Group, builds logistics center with Element Logic

REISSER Schraubentechnik, part of the Würth Group, has opened a new highly automated logistics center in Osterburken, Germany. With Element Logic as a partner, the 20,000 m² facility brings together AutoStore, autonomous material handling, conveyor technology, and intelligent software in one integrated solution.

The result is a scalable logistics operation with efficient workflows, built to support future growth.

One Partner for a Complex Automation Project

The new logistics center represents the largest investment in REISSER’s history. To manage the complexity of the project, REISSER chose Element Logic as partner, with responsibility for both the automation technology and the software connecting the different systems.

At the new facility, incoming screws are stored before being assembled, weighed, packed, and prepared for shipping. Automation supports the flow throughout the operation, from pallet storage and internal transport to picking and outbound handling.

AutoStore at the Heart of the Solution

At the center of the logistics operation is an AutoStore system with capacity for 75,000 bins. The system initially holds 53,000 bins and is operated by 29 R5 robots.

A total of 19 ports support inbound and outbound processes, including 12 CarouselPorts for high-throughput order picking and seven Conveyor Ports.

The compact storage system enables REISSER to make efficient use of available space while supporting ergonomic goods-to-person picking.

Since no aisles are required, the AutoStore system is very compact and offers a high degree of space utilization. In addition, its goods-to-person picking principle supports our focus on ergonomic work processes.

Automation Beyond the Cube

AutoStore forms one part of a wider automated material flow.

The facility also includes a narrow-aisle pallet warehouse with 18,000 pallet locations reaching up to 14 meters in height. Seven autonomous high-lift pallet trucks and ten autonomous narrow-aisle forklifts transport goods between receiving, storage, production, and other areas of the warehouse.

By connecting the different technologies, REISSER can automate large parts of the material flow while reducing manual transport and supporting more ergonomic working conditions.

Once finished products are ready for storage, they are transferred into AutoStore. Orders are then picked directly into shipping cartons before being automatically transported to the central shipping area.

Software Connecting the Operation

Element Logic’s software connects and coordinates the different automation technologies across the logistics center. The WMS, eController, and eHub work together to manage warehouse processes and ensure seamless communication between AutoStore, autonomous vehicles, conveyor systems, and REISSER’s other business systems.

This gives REISSER one integrated solution with real-time data flow and coordinated process control across the operation.

Built for Future Growth

The automation solution has been designed with scalability in mind. Both AutoStore and the surrounding material handling systems can be expanded as REISSER’s requirements develop.

With the new logistics center, REISSER has created a highly integrated foundation for its future logistics operations – bringing storage, material handling, picking, shipping, and software together in one complete solution.
