Multi‑temperature AutoStore delivers faster and smarter flow at Matvareexpressen

How do you handle both chilled and ambient goods quickly and accurately without expanding your warehouse footprint? For Matvareexpressen, the answer was a multi‑temperature AutoStore solution from Element Logic. The result is higher efficiency, a better working environment and a logistics setup ready for continued growth.
Matvareexpressen (MVE) is a Norwegian food supplier serving the B2B market, including canteens, kindergartens, schools and public sector organizations. Since its founding in 2007, the company has grown into a key player with more than 2,500 B2B customers across the country.
As order volumes increased and expectations for speed and accuracy grew, MVE needed a more efficient warehouse solution without relocating to larger facilities.
Two temperature zones – one seamless solution
The solution delivered by Element Logic is a multi‑temperature installation. Built on a mezzanine, the warehouse is divided into two separate temperature zones:
- One chilled zone
- One ambient zone
Each zone operates its own AutoStore grid, with a total of approximately 10,000 storage bins. This setup enables chilled and ambient goods to be handled in parallel within one integrated automated flow.
The goods are picked efficiently from the system and consolidated into complete orders before being packed, scanned and prepared for delivery.

Maximum performance in minimal space
By utilizing the height of the existing building and combining multiple temperature zones in one solution, Matvareexpressen has achieved several tangible benefits:
- Reduced footprint – the same building, significantly higher capacity
- Improved working environment – less manual work in cold storage areas
- Higher efficiency – faster picking and increased throughput
- Fewer errors – improved control and accuracy in order fulfillment
AutoStore is known for delivering some of the fastest order picking per square meter on the market and accomodates for continuous 24/7 operations. In this solution, the effect is further strengthened by handling temperature‑sensitive goods without slowing down the overall product flow.
The solution is not only about efficient operations today, it is also about securing capacity for future growth. Matvareexpressen has a warehouse structure designed to handle a turnover of up to NOK 1 billion, without the need to move to new premises.
