At Speed’s large facility in Borås, Sweden, the company is taking its third-party logistics (3PL) operations for its largest existing customer to the next level. With a complete solution from Element Logic, the entire workflow will be automated – from goods reception to outbound deliveries. The layout is optimized for future growth and additional customers. This investment sets a new standard for complex warehouse operations in Sweden.

“For us, this investment is about future-proofing our logistics for both existing and new customers. We need a solution that can grow with us while delivering maximum efficiency from day one,” says Erik Irwing, Business Area Manager at Speed Logistics.

AutoStore – The Core of Automated Small Goods Handling

At the heart of the solution is AutoStore – the proven warehouse system for handling small products. Items that fit into standardized bins are stored in a grid, which in its first phase offers a storage capacity equivalent to 60,500 locations, with room for future expansion.

AutoStore is used both as a storage engine and as a shipping buffer for orders shipped directly in cartons. Four Pick & Pack stations enable flexible picking for different flows – such as shuttle, production, or kitting. All ports are multifunctional and can handle several types of picking.

Quadron Shuttle – Efficient Handling of Cartons and Consolidation

For larger cartons, Speed is installing the Quadron Shuttle from Element Logic’s partner Addverb Technologies – a highly efficient shuttle system with 11,600 dynamic storage locations and 16 shuttles. It serves both as a storage engine for larger goods and as a consolidation buffer where orders from AutoStore and the shuttle system meet. Orders packed in larger cartons can also be temporarily staged here while awaiting shipment.

The shuttle system is designed for a capacity of 385 cartons per hour, with double-deep storage and automatic level switching. Its built-in sequencing logic ensures an efficient flow toward packing. Just like with AutoStore, it is quick and easy to scale capacity by adding additional shuttles.

Seamless Flow from Goods Reception to Packing and Special Handling

In a centralized decanting area, goods are received on pallets and repacked into bins for storage in AutoStore or into cartons for direct transfer to the Quadron Shuttle. From there, goods are transported to production, kitting, or one of the four packing stations – where pallets and cartons are handled in a sequenced flow.

The integrated conveyor system, delivered in collaboration with SGA Conveyor System, connects all zones of the facility. For special requirements, a dedicated area is available for customer-specific manual handling, including palletizing, inventory checks, and pre-configuration of certain products.

“This is one of the most advanced solutions we have delivered in Sweden. We are automating nearly every step and building a scalable platform for both Speed and their customers,” says Anders Bohlin, Sales Director at Element Logic Sweden.

A Scalable Solution for the Future

At the core of the solution is Element Logic’s software platform, with eManager, eController, and eHub synchronizing all system components and providing full control across the entire chain. The solution will go live in January 2026 and is designed from the start to accommodate more customers. As a result, Speed gains a scalable, efficient, and comprehensive automation system capable of handling complex flows while reducing costs in the long term.

“We have had a close and solution-oriented collaboration with Element Logic for many years. This is a natural next step where together, we take a significant leap toward an even smarter and more future-proof warehouse,” says Hans Sahlin, CEO at Speed Group.

“There is a growing demand for complete and flexible solutions that connect more parts of the logistics chain. This project clearly demonstrates that automation is not just about faster picking – it is about optimizing the entire flow,” says Benny Thögersen, CEO at Element Logic Sweden.
