Medical device manufacturer, Lohmann & Rauscher, automated their warehouse with Element Logic

The leading international provider of medical and hygiene products has commissioned the construction of a new AutoStore system, offering space for 11.578 bin locations. The intralogistics expert Element Logic took on general contractor responsibility for the planning and implementation of the automated storage and retrieval system AutoStore, including EWCS (Element Warehouse Control Software).

Lohmann & Rauscher (L&R) develops, produces, and sells high quality medical and hygiene products worldwide, with a portfolio of more than 16.000 product solutions. The corporate group was established in 1998 through the merger of the two companies Lohmann and Rauscher, with Headquarters in Rengsdorf, Germany and Vienna, Austria. With more than 5.300 employees, L&R generated a turnover of over 670 million euros in 2019.

As a result of the merger, the company has recorded rapid and dynamic business development in terms of international expansion, new companies and investments, increased sales, and a growing amount of employees. To ensure optimal use of space, the highly efficient storage and order picking solution was integrated into the existing 1.130 m² warehouse, aiming for shorter order processing times.

In the first stage, the AutoStore system at L&R was built on 280 m² floor space, with a capacity of 10.000 storage bins. Two picking workstations and one workstation for incoming goods are served by ten robots, ensuring fast and order-oriented goods handling. Being integrated with the customer`s own WMS, Element Logic`s software EWCS takes over all operational planning and optimization routines.

The new AutoStore system was handed over to L&R in the 4th quarter of 2020 – only 20 weeks after the order was placed.

«At Lohmann & Rauscher, we are continuously working on more efficient solutions that reduce our CO2 emissions. The investment in AutoStore by Element Logic helps us to achieve this goal, and supports us in securing our long-term economic success», says Wolfgang Hoff, Head of Warehouse Management & Shipping Germany.
